Dee Wilbank: Prop/Toy

Figure 1.-- Here we see Dee with a great sailboat. It looks to be more of a functioning toy than a model. We are not sure if it is Dee's favorite toy or a studio prop. Notice his saucer sailor cap which mother has presumably placed in the portrait.

Here we have only one prop, a great model sailboat. It of course goes perfectly with Dee's sailorsuit. In one impage we see Dee working with the rigging. It looks to be a working sailboat, so we can picture Dee sailing it in a part pond. What we do not know is if it was actually his boat or a studio prop. Children may have taken favorite toys for the portrait session. Astute mothers may have known this would be helpful in taking the photograph. Dee may have liked the sailboat because of his new sailor suit. Of course a phitographer at the time must have photographed a lot of children in sailorsuits. Thus a toy sailboat would have been a handy prop to have in the studio.
