Photo Essays: Free Time--Locations

There are a range of places the children can spend their free time. During the day, weather permitting the schools encourage the children to persue outdoors persuits. Here schools offered a range of facilities for the children. Almost all schools had a range of sports facilities which is where many of the older boys can be found. There were, however, many other outdoor facilities fr the children. Especially popular with the younger children are woodsey areas where the can build forts or dens. There are usually grounfs for cames like badmiton and croquet. Probably one of the most popular outdoor facilities is a swimming pool. A few schools had lakes and ponds which coulf be used for fishing. Quite a few turned areas over to the children for gardens. There were also many indoor areas for free time. Often there are brief periods befor scheduled activities or meals and the children tend to assemble in their form rooms. The form rooms are an important spot for boarders. Here they might play some camrs, depending on how much time they have available. There were often game rooms or special places for board games, model railroasding, model building, and other special activities. Often the prefects had a specual room. Some schools had gymnasiums which could be used for free play in the evening. Schools varies on accessibility to the library and computers in the evening.
