Individual Children: Musicians

Figure 1.--Music is a major activity at most modern prep schools. Children are able to develop both instrumental and choral skills and some achieve an impressive standard.

Music

Justin

Justin started his musical career at Bramcote fairly late by some standards, but, once started, there was no stopping him. His progress on the trumpet was swift, and before long, he quite relished the thought of an audience to entertain. Equally quck was his progress on the piano, and having joined the choir, his mellifluous voice was soon heard in a variety of solo parts.

Giles

Giles was essentially a keyboard player, with long experience at the piano. This led eventually to his second keybord instrument, the organ. He took to the instrument, with its complicated tchniques of feet and hands, quite naturally, and became the first pupil-organist to play at a service, which he did on three separate occassions. He became a competent flautist, and a very useful tenor, subsequently moving on the bass line, the first pupil to do so.

Andrew

Andrew provided a fine example of success, achieved through hard work and determination. On the clarinet, he became our first pupil both to take and pass the grade six examination of the Associated Board. This was no mean achievement for someone of his age, At the same time he was making rapid progress at the piano, and also as an alto singer in the school choir.

Jonathan

.... Thereis one outstanding achievement contained within these results. After only two years' tuition on the piano and a year and a half on the oboe, Jonathan suceeded in passing with merit in three exam on these two instruments -- not surprising he became the worthy winner of this year's music prize.
