Computers were just being introduced to the school program in the 1980s. They quickly became an integral part of the school program. Schools not only began to train children in basic computer skills and programs, but teachers also begun to use computers in the classroom. Such was the interest in computers among the children that many schools also organized computer clubs. The children in the clubs can work on advanced skills like programming Computer usage at first was limited, but as the price of computers fell the schools were able to rapidly increase the children's access to them. At most schools the children the most enthusiastic about computers are boys.
This term Computer Club has been great fun. I wrote a program where you had to catch and destroy Robo-Cop, by chosing one gun, one car and one motor-bike. Everyone has been trying to get to the computer room first, to have a go on the Archimedes A3000, which is new to the school. Matthew Commander programs the computer to make high-pitched noises which drive everyone, including Mr Edmonds, mad.
