Fine Arts: Art--Teachers

Figure 1.--.

Many prep school teachers use standard sylabuses and prepared progrms. This limits the individuality of the teaching to some extent. This varied from subject to subject. One subject that was taught in a highly individual manner was art. Thus it was only interesting to view the art rooms and the approach of the art teachers from school to school.

Looking In

The important things tht come to me from looking at the art work at Bramcote were revealed in the widely different approaches of the two teachers. Mrs Floyd channels the njoyment of play towards the creation of things that are pleasing to look at. Mr Polhill leads the older boys towards the artist's understanding of rightness of expression, so that whatver the media they become able to give "significant form" to their imaginations.
