Softball is an American sport, commonly played in school recesses and PE classes and summer camps because it is safer than baseball. American girls play softball in school competitions. We did not note in being plyed at the schools we visit, but occassionally PE classess introduce new sports to the children t add a little diversity to the program.

Softball

A new experience for some Belmont boys was a softball match at Rikkio School. After a few practices the ram was understandably nervous, as only Tunde Lediju had any previous experience. Rikkio seriously underestimated both Belmont's determination and aptitude, however, and by combination of strong hirring and accurate, fast throwing, together with the discipline to obey instructions -- essential in a game which is often a battle of nerves between pitcher and batter -- Belmont won by an almost embarassing margin. All boys played well but mention must be made of the pitching of James Pidgeon which contributed greatlt to the team's success.

Looking Back

I missed about four cricket matches. I broke my finger playing softball -- I went for a catch and it just hit my little finger of my left hand.
