Belgian Woman's Magazine: Boys' Peaked Cap, 1952

Figure 1.--"Vrouw en Huis" in 1952 showed this outfit for a 14-year old boy. Presumably it was an advertisement or pattern for thr overcoat. The cap looks very British. We are not sure how common the British peaked school cap was in Belgium.

Magazine

The Belgian magazine Vrouw en Huis ("Woman and Home") was an important source of fashion information for Belgian and Dutch mothers. We have some issues from the early 1950s. It was a weekly magazine and as it was in Dutch for Flemish readers, was also sold in the Netherlands. I'm not sure how popular it was among French readers.

Garment

Vrouw en Huis in 1952 showed a 14 year old boy wearing a peked cap with knitte mittens and a overcoat. The outfits looks like a British school uniform. HBC is unsure how popular these caps were in Belgium or if they were worn as part of school uniforms in Belgium. We notice what looks to be a school crest on the cap. HBC was not aware that there were a lot of schools in Belgium with this type of uniform.
