We note a French Canadian catalogue that offered Depuis Brothers long stocking and golf socks in their 1945-46 Fall and Winter catalog.
The Depuis Brothers was located in Quebec. It seems to have been a store with a French-spealing clientelle, at least their catalog was published in French. Idon't know if they had a comparable English-language catalog.
The store offered long stocking and golf socks.
The Depuis Brothers offered the long stockings and golf socks on page 26 of their 1945-46
Fall and Winter catalog.
The stockings, with a few exceptions, are for both girls and boys.
The hosiery was offered in sizes from 5 1/2 (about 3 or 4 years old) to 10 (about 15 or, in some cases, 16 years of age).
Most of the stockings are wool or wool and cotton mixture.
The so-called "golf stockings" are knee length socks worn by both boys in girls although a few models are for boys only. The illustrations seem to show them being worn with bare knees (short
trousers and skirts are therefore implied) although knickers or "breeches" were also worn in Canada and these knee-length stockings could be worn with them as well as shorts. Ten different varieties of
long stockings are advertised. Eight different styles of knee socks are shown, all of them with turnover cuffs. The majority of the knee socks are prominently ribbed as are many of the long stockings as well.

The Depuis ad copy read, "Chauds, comfortable, pratiques! Ce sont des bas comme ceux-ci qu’une maman exige pour le confort et la chaleur de ses enfants Durant les jours rigoureux d’hiver. Vos serez surprises e ravies de la longueur, de la qualité et de lar durée de ces bas a grosses cotes qui son vendus au prix des bas de moindre qualité.
Couleurs: noir, chameau. Pointares: 7, 7 ½, 8, 8 ½, 8, 9 ½, 10.
112A448 75 cents." That translates in English as, "Wool worsted stockings much liked by children. Warm, comfortable, practical. These are stockings like those mother insists upon for the comfort and warmth of her children for fiercely cold winter weather. You will be surprised and delighted by the length, the quality and the durability of these stockings bought in bulk quantities and sold at the price of much cheaper stockings. Colors: black, light tan. Sizes 7 to 10."
The Depuis ad copy read, " Coton and laine Worsted.

This translates in English as, "Here is a mixed texture value without precedent—Cotton and Wool worsted. It’s a special occasion for stockings of this quality offered to you at a quite low price. They will be warm and comfortable for winter. Colors: black and light tan."
The Depuis ad copy read, "Un assortiment incomparable de bas en tricot à cotes fines de cotton et laine pour garcons et fillettes. Mesdames, profitez de cette aubaine qui vous est offerte pour provision de bas pour vos enfants. Vous les desirez parce qui’ils sont bon marche et d’une qualit QUOTE qui sera de bonne durée. Achetez ou vous obtenez entire satisfaction, la meilleure valeur et un bon service. Depuis es l’endroit tout désginé.

Pieds unis, bouts et talons renforces. Appreciable pour garcons et filettes. Au prix offert, vous vous haterez d’en commander plusierus paires a la fois. Couleurs: blanc, chameau. Pointures: 4, 4 ½, 5, 5 ½. 112A430 Prix, la paire 33 cents." This translates in English as, "Fine textured cashmere stockings. Fine cashmere wool and cotton mixture, excellent durability and priced advantageously. Seamless feet with reinforced heels and toes. Appropriate for boys and girls. At the price offered, you will hurry to order several pairs at a time. Colors: white, light tan."

Wool and cotton cashmere stockings in fine texture, seamless feet, medium weight. Colors: cream, light tan (45 cents); light tan (59 cents); black, light tan (76 cents)."
Bas en coton pour garcons et fillettes (right): The Depuis ad copy read, "Ces bas en coton a cotes fines, avec pieds unis, de texture solide, conviennent pour enfants. Ils procureront le confort desirable et pour le prix, vous aurez une valeur dont vous serez surprise.

Pointures: 6, 6 ½, 7, 7 ½, 8, 8 ½, 9, 9 ½. 112A400. Prix, la paire 29 cents." This translates in English as, "Cotton stockings for boys and girls. These cotton stockings of fine knit with seamless feet, plain texture, are well suited to children. They will bring desirable comfort and for the price you will have a value that will surprise you. Colors: light tan, black."
Here are four types of long stockings. The caption read "Bas de bonne durée". This means, "Good wearing hosiery".
