Eatons Summer Outfits for Younger Boys (Canada, 1968)

Figure 1.--This is a pages from the Eatons 1968 summer catalog. Eatons was Canada's most important department store and catalog store. Here are a colorful range of outfits for young boys up to age 6 years. This would be pre-school boys and those just beginning primary school. The outfits offered included several different sets, meaning coordinated tops and bottoms. This included both short and long pants styles. There were many different styles of shirts. The page was labeled 'Sturdy sets and separates'. They were machine washable for active boys. This was also a popular approach in America for pre-school and school age boys. Curriously the outfits were pictured with leather shoes rather than smeakers.

We still have very little Canadian catalog information from the 1960s. We have some items from Eatons, the most important department store and catalog store. One Etons page offered a colorful range of outfits for young boys up to age 6 years. Just about every color was on offer. This would be pre-school boys and those just beginning primary school. The outfits offered included several different sets, meaning coordinated tops and bottoms. The items included cotton-knit coordiuntres, mesh-knit tops, twill pants, London look coordinates, hooded terry tops, nylon jackers, two-piece cotton shorts sets, rib-knit T-shirts, and cosy fleeced cotton topper. There were many different styles of shirt tops. The tops were mostly short sleeves, largely with collars. There were both both short and long pants styles. There was a cardigan and terry hoodies for cooler days. As well as beachwear, including cotton cabana set and streach swim trunks. The page was labeled 'Sturdy sets and separates'. They were machine washable for active boys. This was also a popular approach in America for pre-school and school age boys. Curriously the outfits were pictured with leather shoes rather than sneakers all with white socks. The fashions look a lot like American fashions, except for perhaps a brown cap that looks rather like a 19th century style.
