Figure 1.--r.

Finland is a small country, at least in population. And thanks to Soviet aggressiin, smaller tha it had oince been. Of course a small country means a small market. Thecountry was a poor, largely agricultural country untill we after World War II when it began to emerge from the Soviet shadow. It isnly then tht comsumer goods began to reach Western levels. There are three main Department Stores in Finland that have a national presence: Anttila, Sokos, and Stockmann. Of these, Stockmann is probably the best known, in no small part thanks to its landmark store in central Helsinki which is the largest in all of the Nordic countries. We have very little information on Finland, but have some information on the Antilla Department Store. The mame is a place nme in Finlnd. It begn as a Helsiki Departmednt store to become a chain store and mail order catalog. It did not specialize in cvhildren's clothes, but did carry them. It was owned by Kesko (1996 - 2015 ). Anttila was acquired by 4K Invest, a Munivch private equity firm. Ayear later it filed for bankruptcy (2016). There is one other department store in Finland, one that has become something of a cultural anomaly. Veljekset Keskinen is second biggest department store in the country, but what makes this one unique is its remote location and its incredible popularity. E
