French mail order catalogs and clothing advertisements offer a very useful time line on changing fashion trends. Boys commonly wore sailor hats ans suits. Suits styles and head gear appear to have been rather mature styles, both kneepants and long pants were available. We note school uniforms in milatary styles.
Boys wore both sailor hats and caps as well as a range of what looked to us today as rather mature headwear for a boy.
We note school uniforms in military styles. These do not look like uniforms specifically for military schools, bit look to be uniforms worn at regular secondary schools. There were several different styles of military iniforms worn. I am not sure if all French secondary schools required these military uniforms, but they were certainly very common.
These military styled uniforms were offered in 1899. They were all long pants uniforms, but the styles varied widely. Some are styled after French army uniforms, some seem toi have a more generic military styling. We are unsure as to the actual source of this advertisement. We note it being attributed as the "Grands Magasins du Louvre". We are not sure if this is an actual magazine are some kind of catalog issued by the Louvre art museum.
Shoes were mostly still hightops.
