Australian Advertisements and Mail Order Catalogs with Boys Clothings: The 1950s


Figure 1.-- Here we have an advertisement for boys clothing, both suits and school uniform that a store placed in a school publication. Note the traditional school uniform styles. I'm not sure why the boys clothes were being sold at a cooperative society rather than a boys or mens outfiter as was common in England.

After World War II we see a greater American influence. A major exception here was school uniforms which become much more common in state schools during the 1950. We note school uniform advertisements in school publications.

We note traditionaly styled school uniform advertisements in school publications.

We note advertisements for both suits and traditional English-style school uniforms. The advertisement here was placed in a school publication, the Aberdale Boys' Grammar School (figure 1). We are not sure why clothes were being sold through a cooperative society.
