Sears Shoes: Ladies and Children's Specialties (1911)

Figure 1.--This page from the 1911 Sears catalog offered shoes for ladies and children. We note an early offering of strap sandals.

Here we see a mixed page in the Sears catalogs, not only ladies and children, but also shoes and hosiery. They are offered under the heading "Ladies and Children's Newest Novelties." There are shoes for children and for ladies. The children's shoes would mean I think boys and girls, but generally younger boys than girls. There is also hosiery offered. Some of it is clearly for ladies, but some of the styles may be for children. Here I am nor sure. There were four styles of children's shoes offered. There is an ad for double t-strap closed toe sandal in this catalog. The shoe look identical to the one in the 1910 Montgomery Ward catalog. It was available in children's sizes 8 1/2 to 2, and women's sizes 5 to 8. This may be the first time Sears advertised them. We won't know for sure until we are able to investigate earlier catalogs.

Children Shoes

There were four styles of childrens shoes offered.

15F4079: Child's White Top

This was a child's high-top button shoe with a white top and black bottom. It was made in sizes 4-8.

15F424/5: Calfskin. Chrome Sole

This is an ad for double bar t-strap closed toe sandal, although that desription was not used. Rather Sears labeled it "Calfskin" and "chfrome Sole". I'm not sure what crome sole meant. The shoe look identical to the one in the 1910 Montgomery Ward catalog. It was available in children's sizes 8 1/2 to 2, and women's sizes 5 to 8. This may be the first time Sears advertised them. We won't know for sure until we are able to investigate earlier catalogs.

15F4077:Child's White Coolar

This was a child's low-cut button shoe. It was done in brown with a white collae around the top of the shoe. It also had a small bow. The shoe was done in sizes 4 to 8.

15F4080: Tan Kid. Hand Turned

This high-top button shoe was done in sizes 4 to 8 with two shades of brown.

Hosiery

The black stockings are clearly for ladies. We are less sure about the socks.
