United States Patterns: Butterick Sports Blouse (about 1920)

Figure 1.--Here is a Butterick oattern that dates to about 1920. It is for a blouse with the the new sports collar.

A HBC reader tells us, "Although this particular pattern dates from about 1920, this boy's sports blouse with convertible collar, had been patented by Butterick since 1916." We can not yet confirm this. This suggests that these sports blouses were worn during the World War I era. We had associated them more with the 1920s. They were more popular after the War. The size on the pattern is marked as being for an 8 year old with a neck measure of 11 1/2" and a sleeve length if 23" (for the long sleeve blouse). Butterick was one of the principal catalog companies.
