Sears Blazers and Sports Jackers for Younger Boys (United States, 1958)


Figure 1.-- We have little on 1958 at this time. We notice Sears blazers and sports jackers worn with long and short pants for boys age 2-6 years of age in a 1958 catalog. Many of the itms were oddred in a a patriotic red, whie, and blue. Slacks could be purchased separately. Eton jackets were shown with short pants and lapel jackets with long pants. Some were coordinated brother-sister out fits, the pants of course bing replaced with pleated skirts. The material was described as flannel, but made with a blended Orlon and cotton fabric.

The Sears ad copy read, "New! Flannel Classics You Can Wash N' Wear with Little or No Ironing! The appearance and softness of luxurious wool cashmere in a washable flannel. Our finest luxury quality in soft flannel of 80% Orion, 20% combined cotton. Now the flannel can e machine washed and machine dried or drip dried ... most wrinckles disappear; skirt pleatrs and trousr creases stay in! All in sizes 2 to 6." The slacks had cuffs. Also offered was atriped red, white, and blur Polo sghirt, meaning "T' shirt and a long sl=eeved dress shirt. The Eton jackets were shown worn with open collars which as far as we can tell fom the photographic record was not very common. The lapel jackets were show with bow ties and neckties.
