We do not yet have much information in Danish fashions gender trends. Our Danish archive is very limited making it impossible to go very deeply into the topic. Denmark is a very small country and thus will not have a photographic record like the larger countries lke England and Germany for whixh we have substantial archives. We note the standard girls' garments, including blouses, dresses, pantalettes, pinafores, skirts, and others. Here we see Danish girls wearing pinafores (fugure 1). Denmark borders Germany to the south. As best we can tell, German children's clothing for both boys and girls were similar to German styles, at least popular styles in northern Germany. We also see an English influence. Here connections o the British royal family was a factor. We do not see soutern/Alpine styles like Lederhosen for boys. We also do not know much about girls' styles. We are not sure, for exmple, about the dirndl. Hopefully as we acquire more images, we can begin to assess gender trends. We note an unidentified Danish girl wearing an early sailor-styled dress about 1870.
