German Boys' Clothing Pattern Companies: Burda

Figure 1.--A HBC reader tells us that this was a 1980 Burda pattern. Apparently Burda had a publication "Trachten" containing knitted outfits styled like German folk costume. This illustration was published in Duch for the Dutch and Flemish market.

Burda is a major German pattern company. We do not know when they were established. They continue to be a major company today. We believe that they did both sewing and knitting patterns. We note that they have a relationship with Simplicity which distributes its patterns. While Burda was a German company, they marketed their patterns in many other European countrues. They publish Burda Kids' Fashions twice annually in 2002. It was foremerly called Burda Toddlers. The magazine is also published in English and Russia. We also notice Burda patterns and publications printed in other languages sych as Dutch. Hopefully our German readers will ptovide us more information about the company.
