Gustav Adolf : Childhood

Figure 1.-- Prince Gustav Adolf seems to have enjoyed playing soldier. The photograph here shows the prince wearing an army cap and realistic-looking rifle. He was about 5 years old. Source: Bane Collection. Library of Congress.

Gustav Adolf was born in 1906. We do not know a great deal about his childhood. He had a younger brother about his age to play with. They must have been very close. He seems to have enjoyed playing soldier. We note one photograph with Prince Gustaf Adolf playing soldier and wears a military cap and carries a rifle, standing at full attention, in one of the rooms of the palace in Stockholm. He wears play clothes--a pullover sweater with buttons at the shoulder, white knee pants, black ribbed long stockings, and hightop laceup shoes.
