Indian Boys School Uniform Garments: Shirts

Figure 1.-- We note a wide range of shirts. White or light blue shirts are popular. We also see stripes and patterns. Some of the white or light colored shirts have the school logo sewn on to the pockets. This boy attended a Kerala private school in 2004.

I'm not sure about the shirts worn during the Raj at schools. Boys in primary school today generally wear a simple light-weight shirt and short pants. The climate of course is a factor here. The uniform for boys is usually a buttoned-shirt with short sleeves. We note a wide range of shirts. White or light blue shirts are popular. We also see stripes and patterns. Some of the white or light colored shirts have the school logo sewn on to the pockets. I'm less sure about the trends at secondary schools. This boy attended a Kerala private school in 2004 (figure 1). A reader writes, "The shirt also has the name of the student on it. Interesting how it is in a clear place above the logo. Name tags on school clothes in lots of other countries is on the inside collar, primarily to ensure the garment can be identified. The pin on tag here of course is to identify the boy."
