Belgian School Uniform Chronology: Individual Class, 1926

Figure 1.-- These boys all look to be younger teenagers, about 13-14 years olds. All of the boys wear short pants suits, suggesting a possible school dress code. The most popular style was single breasted jackets, but we see double breasted jackets and sailor suits as well. One boy has a natty stripped balzer. The open neck shirt with wide collars worn over jackets lapels can be seen and appears to be a trendy new style.

We note a class in 1926. We do not know the name of the school or what kind of school it is. The boys all look to be younger teenagers, about 13-14 years olds. All of the boys wear short pants suits. There is clearly no style required, but as every boy appears to wear short pants suits of some kind, we wonder if there is a possible school dress code. We see primarily single breasted, but some double breasted jackets. A few of the boys wear the new open neck short with wide collars worn over the lapels of suit jackets. It seems to be a new style. One boy tries to wear a tie with obe of these wide collared shirts. Two boys still wear traditional sailor suits. All of the boys appear to be wearing short pants suits and kneesocks.

Chronology

We note a class in 1926. We know nothing about this school other than it was Belgian and the class photograph was taken in 1926.

School

We do not know the name of the school or what kind of school it is. We are not sure if it was a private or state school. The boys all look to be younger teenagers, about 13-14 years olds. We assume that theyvwere the junior boy in a secondary school, but have no information to indicate just what kind of school it was.

Regulations

All of the boys wear short pants suits. There is clearly no style required, but every boy appears to wear short pants suits. Even the older boy behind the teacher seems to be wearing a short lants suit, at least you can seen his kneesocks. As all of the boys seem to be wearing short pants suiys of some description, we wonder if there is a possible school dress code. Ties were not required, but the photograph suggests that short pants suits of some description may have been required. Now it may be just that shorts pants were very common. We are not, however, convinced of this. While short pants were common in Belgium for younger teens in the 1920s, they were not exclusively worn. It seems like that if they were not rquired, that a few of these boys would have turned up in long pants or knicker suits.

Garments

All of the boys appear to be wearing short pants suits of varying description. We see primarily single breasted, but some double breasted jackets. One boy wears a stripped blazer.
