Warren Hill School: Old Boys

Warren Hill School
Figure 1.--This boy's name was B.J. Dagdale. (The writen captions are not clear.) He looks as if he has just entered the Royal Navy.

All the portraits in the Warren Hill School album were named and dated. Some have been researched. Major General Merton Beckwith-Smith DSO MC was the father of Princess Diana's Lady in Waiting and whose grave in a Japanese prisoner of war camp was searched for and found on the Princess's instructions. Sir Robert Campbell was Ambassador to France and involved in Operation Catapult. This was Britain's World War II attack on the French fleet to make sure it could not fall in NAZI hands. E.W. Mann was a Kent cricketer. A reader tells us about another old boy. "I am carrying out some research into the first man from my village who was killed in World War W. His name was Frederick Longman and he went to this school. He was born in 1890 and I know he left to attend Harrow School in 1903. He is found at the school in the 1901 census. I have a school portrait of him and would like to know if there is anything else of him. I know he became a good boxer and swimmer from the records at Harrow School and also at Pembroke College Cambridge where he studied later." [Boylan]
