The photographs in the album are mostly portraits of individual boys. Amateur snpshots were not common before the turn of the 20th century. Thus portraits which were more available were widely used in albums. We believe that it was fairly common for boys to exchange portraits with friends. Many boys kept scrapbooks. The portraits provide some useful details about the uniforms that the boys were wearing.
