Malroy École Professionnelle D'Agriculture: Chronology--The 1900s

Figure 1.--This school prtrait was taken in 1905. Notice the boy at right. He has a knicker suit which he wears with a floppy bow. Note that he iis holding a military-style school cap. Another image taken in 1906 shows the boys mostly wearing long pants.

We see the boys still wearing suits in the 1900s. A few boys have military-style caps, but they do not seenm as common as we noted in the 1890s. The boys are wearing sack suits with lapels, The lapels are still set quite high. Most boys have white shirts with collars and various kinds of neckwrear. We see boys wearing knickers and more commonly kneepants. Given the way the photograph is set up, it is difficult to determine which kind of pants are more common. We suspect thst most boys are wearing long pants. Notice the boy at right. He has a knicker suit which he wears with a floppy bow. Note that he iis holding a military-style school cap. While the boy here wears knickers. Most of the boys seem to be wearing long pants. This rathjer surprised us as we though that knnepants were very common in France for boys during the 1900s. We suspect that in an urbsan school, many more boys would be wearing kneepants or knickers, especially the younger boys.
