Unidentified German Boy: Plaid Jacket, Lederhosen, and Long Stockings (about 1930)

 Strapsleibchen
Figure 1.-- This boy was part of a German primary class photographed about 1930. They look to be 3rd graders (8 year olds). The boys wear both ankle socks and knee socks. One boy wears dark long stockings. This was the only boy we can see who was wearing long stockings. That was probably a seasonal matter. If the weather had been cooler, probably more boys woukd have worn long stockings. Rather unusually, aboyt half the boys wore striped jackets looking rather like blazers. The boy wearing long stockings has a Strapsleibchen, bodice and garters) and Lederhosen with a halter. It is clear that he is wearing garter straps from the configuration of the stockings on his legs--stockings that are too short to completely covers his legs when he is sitting cross-legged on the floor. He is also wearing what looks like a striped jacket on top of the Lederhosen halter. On closer examination, his jacket is not striped, but a kind of plaid.
