Individual German Schools: Blender School

Figure 1.--Here we have a school photo taken in Blender, a municipality in the district of Verden, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The photo was taken in 1952. It looks to be a small primary school. The children look to be about 8-9 years old. Most of the boys wear short pants, many H-bar or suspender shorts. The girls all wear dresses. Some of the children are barefoot, but we can not tell how common this was.

Here we have school photos taken in Blender, a municipality in the district of Verden, in Lower Saxony, Germany. This is northern Germany near Hamburg. The Verden district dates back to the two Ämter of Verden and Achim, which were created (1852 and 1859). This was after the Kingdom of Hanover (ancestral hoime of the British moinarch) became part of Prussia, they were recreated as districts (Kreis), and merged (1932). Ttwo municipalities of the district were added to Bremen (1939). Thedinghausen (previously an exclave of the district of Braunschweig) was added (1972).

The 1940s

Here we have another photo taken at Blender school (see: https://www.histclo.com/schun/country/ger/is/alpha/b/gis-ble.html). This one in the 1940s. This is a class of 10 pupils, three girls and seven boys. They are standing with their school bags on their shoulders. The girls wear dresses and are shod. Three boys are also shod and four barefoot. Four boys wear H-bar short pants. A boy wears lederhosen as only garment (he is barefoot and shirtless). That was quite common in summertime. Sometimes we note this also at school.

The 1950s

This photo was taken in 1952 (figure 1). It looks to be a small primary school. Saxony was in East Germany, but Lower Saxony (German: Niedersachsen) was in West Germany. The children look to be about 8-9 years old. Most of the boys wear short pants, many H-bar or suspender shorts. The girls all wear dresses. Some of the children are barefoot, but we can not tell how common this was.
