Hardenberg Gymnasium Chronology: The 1940s

Figure 1.--This is some of the younger boys at the Hardenberg Gynasium in the 1946-47. It was an apparently all boys school. The boys wear a wide range of outfits. The class was all boys. This was only a year after the War. The boys look happy and well dressed, but this was very difficult time in Germany.

We see boys at the school during the 1940s wearing suits, more casual jackets, and sweaters. Note the interesting styling of many jackets. Here an important factor was the age of the boy. The boys wear short pants, knickers, and long stiockings. Many of the knickers were very long, almost to the ankle. They were mostly worn in the Winter. Even the younger bpys wear these knickers during the Winter. Short pants were more common in the warmer weather. Some of the younger boys wore long stockings with short pants, but this was mostly during the Winter. Here we see the 1946-47 class. The boys wear a wide range of clothes. Note that one of the boys in the front row wears socks over long stockings, but most of the other boys wear knickers. It is clearly a chilly day as the boys are dressed warmly.
