Japanese Individual School Uniform: Unknown Public Schools (1920s?)

Figure 1.--Here we have an unidentified school, probably in the 1920s. The photograph is in color, but we think it is a colorized photograph, not a true color image. We think it may be a junior high school. The boys are uniformed in cadet uniforms, but not the blue ones that were popular after World War II. Put your cursor on the image to see the rest of the group.

Here we have an unidentified school, probably in the 1920s or perhaps the 30s. We believe it is definitelt after World War I, but not after World War II. We note a boy at his brother's graduation wearing this style of uniform in 1939. (The boy wearing this uniform in the 1939 had a belt. The boy's here wear no belt over their jackets.) The photograph is in color, giving it a more modern look. We think, however, that it is a colorized photograph, not a true color image. The boys look a little old for primary school. We think it may be a junior high school. These boys might be some of the younger students. Perhaps the uniform signifies that the boys are in a secondary school. They are uniformed in cadet uniforms, but not the blue ones that were popular after World War II. The white caps they wore were very common before the War. The boys wear leggings. One boy has done up his pants wrong. The building in the background looks like the school. The image id coded Pai-Chai. We do not know if that is the name of the school. A reader writes, "From everything I have seen, I think that you are correct about the dating. It looks to me to be uniform commonly worn in the inter-War era. After World War II the uniform changed to the current blue cadet style."
