Japanese Individual Private School Uniform: Toin Gakuen--Daily Smock Uniform

Figure 1.-Here we see the blue smock-like jacket the olderbchildren wore. We are not sure just wg=hen they wore it. We see other photographs with the children in shirt sleeves and the summer dresses.

The children while at school appear to put on smock-like garments during the school day (figure 1). We are not sure just when they wore it. We see other photographs with the children in shirt sleeves and the summer dresses. The children didn't come to school in smocks, but put them on after thaey got to school. Thatb seems to be a fairly common convention. This seens to be a new development in Japanese school wear. We see it at other schools. Earlier we only see kindergartners weatring smocks. These are blue knit, a blend of wool with high heat retention and acrylic with high durability makes it convenient for body temperature control. The younger chilldren seen to be wearing a more traditional back-buttioning smock. The older children wear more of a short lab-coat type garment. At Toin Gakuen it was wirn with a collar-buttoning shirt.
