New Zealand School Uniform: Hosiery Bands

Figure 1.--Many New Zealand boys wear kneesocks with colored bands in the school cilors. Often the same colors are used in the sweater trim.

At most schools the grey socks have colored bands at the top in the school colors. Grey kneesocks are very common. Some schools have kneesock without the colored bands or allow the boys to wear plain grey kneesocks without the bands. Here regulations vary from school to school. It is common for the grey kneesocks to have bands in the school colors at the top. A few schools have grey kneesocks with the entire turn over top in the school color. The black kneesocks commonly have white bands or white included in the color combination. Less common are tan kneesocks with the color bands. A few schools wear all black kneesocks. The light blue kneesocks are mostly worn without colored bands.
