Colonial Algerian School Uniform:  Individual Schools--Ecole Gambetta CE Classes

Figure 1.--This is a class at the Ecole Gambetta school in 1952. It was a CE1 class. The boys look about 8-9 years old. Most boys wear short pants. Several boys wear knickers. We only see one boy wearing a smock.

Cours élémentaire was commonly referred to as CE. Unlike CP, there were two classes in CE. There was a CE1 and CE2 class. We have a photograph from one class, the CE1 class in 1952 (figure 1). These boys would have been about 8-9 years old, depending on whether it is the CE1 or Ce2 class. The children in CE1 would be 7-8 years old and the children in CE2 8-9 years old. Knickers were still being worn, but most of the boys are wearing short panrs. We only see one boy wearing a smock.
