Aberdare Boys' County Grammar School: Uniform 1962

Figure 1.--This photograph shows the boys at the Aberdare Boys Grammar School in 1962. All of the boys wear the uniform with the school blazer. The first year boy were required to war short trousers and kneesocks.

The uniform in 1962 was the same black blazer as in 1957, but it is now worn with a badge. A few boys wear black instead of grey trousers. The school seems to more strictly enforce the uniform than it did in 1957. Even the senior boys are now wearing the blazer. Several boys wear a black or dark blue sweater with school trim. Many boys, however, wear non-regulation grey "V"-neck sweaters. Some of the younger boys wore short trousers and kneesocks, presumably the first year boys. These boys wear plain grey kneesocks as there are no school socks. One boys seems to be wearing ankle socks. Not all of the younger boys wore shorts, but I am not sure what the rule was. There was almost certainly some kind if requitement. It may have been just the first year boys. The school cap apperas to have been discontinued. Although this was a boys' school, there are a few older girls at the school. They were not wearing blazers.
