Russian Special Days Celebrations: First Day Chronology--The 1970s

Figure 1.-- We note celebrations in the 1970s. We note one portrait that looks like a kindergarden first day class portrait. The flowers strongly suggest a first say celebration. The portrait is not dated, but looks like the early-70s to us. The girls in the class wear white dresses rather than dark dresses and white pinafores, but with the same white hair bows that were so common. The boys all wear short pants. All the children have white hosiery, both white knee socks and white tights. Footwear varied, but we see many of the children wearing sandals or srap shoes. This is in part because tieing shoe laces is a little tricky.

We note celebrations in the 1970s. We note one portrait that looks like a kindergrden first day class portrait. The flowers strongly suggest a first day celebration. The portrait is not dated, but looks like the early-70s to us. The girls in the class wear white dresses rather than dark dresses and white pinafores, but with the same white hair bows that were so common. This is why we think the children are kindegardeners rather than first radrs. The boys all wear short pants. All the children have white hosiery, both white knee socks and white tights. Footwear varied, but we see many of the children wearing sandals or srap shoes. This is in part because tieing shoe laces is a little tricky. A reader disagrees about the dte here. He writes, "To me the photo looks more 1950s. Of course that could be because it is black and white. The Russians were probably behind us when it came to style but to me the short pants and bow ties are more 1950s." This is of course correct about America. But Russia was very different. Here the tights are an indicator. The Russians did not have tights in the 1950s. And look at the two lafies. The hemlines and styles are not like the 1950s.
