South African School Activities: Sports--Basketball

Figure 1.--Here boys at a private school in South Africa are having their team photograph taken. We are not sure just how popular basketball is in South Africa.

Basketball is not a sport we normally associate with South Africa. We are not sure how poopular basketball is in South Africa. It does not appear to be a major sport, but we have little information at this time other than a few team photographs. We suspect that basketball may be somewhat more popular among Blacks than Whites. A similar sport called netball is widely played by girls. Netball differs from basketball in that there is no dribbling. Hopefully our South African readers will provide us some insights into basketball in their country.
