U.S. School Clothes: Horace Mann School (Missouri, mid-1920s)

American schools 1920s
Figure 1.-- Here we have a photograph at the Horace Mann School, we think in Missouri. It is an outdoor photograph, interesting because it was taken at recess. It looks like the teachers had organized circle games. It is hard to tell just what the games are, but there look to be two circle games. At my advanced age, it is hard to recall recess in my primary schools. But I do not recall the teachers organizing recess. I recall kickball and dodge ball which we organized ourselves and was mostly for the boys.

I recall kickball and dodge ball which we organized ourselves and was mostly for the boys. The girls were much less interested in these active games. The more placid circle games were more to their taste. We know the name of the school which was located in Kansas City, we think Kansas City, Missouri. The photograph is undated, but the cars suggest the mid-1920s to us.
