School portaits were still being done as caninet cards. This was a plain card done in the the same grey-green color that we begin to see see at the turn of the 20th century. The school was the Rooevelt School in Chicago Illiois, in this case named after President Theodore Roosevelt. The portrait was taken at the end of the school year (May 1930). The class is only identified as Room 14, but this tells us that it was a good-sized primary school, preumably two or more classes for every grade if it was a 6 year prinary.
