Individual U.S. School: Farmington School (1926)

Figure 1.-- This was the Farmington school in Oregon during 1926. One of the boys is Harold Beusteel. For some reason this class is mostly boys. A few of the boys wear suits and ties, but most just wear shirts--mostly long sleeves. Notice how many boys button their shirt collars. They wear knickers with long stockings. The girls mostly have Dutch boy bangs and wear long stockings like the boys. Notice that the boys parted their hair and do not have bangs.

This school portrait looks to be a dark brown cabinet card. It was taken in 1926 and shows class "Fifth C', a 5th grade (10-11 year olds) class. The 'C' suggests there were three or more 5th grade classes. That would make for rather large elementary (primary) school. There are 20 children in the class, a little smaller than most classes at the time. We are not sure about the name of the school, but we are sure that it was located in Farmington in the northwestern corner of the state near Washington. This was an unicorporated comminity, meaning a small town.so we don't think there was more than one school in town. It is probably related to the modern Farmington View Elementary School. Of course There are quite a few Farmingtons in America. This one was located in Oregon. Almost everyone has black long stockings. Notice that the boys parted their hair, although most could do with a comb, and do not have bangs.
