Cold Weather Clothes: Fur Hats

Figure 1.--This German boy was painted by Rudolf Gratz who was living and working in Germany from 1820-1893. The boy wears a rather plain fur cap without ear flaps.

Fur caps were especially popular in the 19th century. Fur was expensive, however and not all families could afford to buy fur caps. Price of course was affected by the type of fur. Fur hats were made in several different style. There were not just many different styles, but also different types of furs. HBC has little information at this time on fur caps.
