Strap Shoes: Instep Strap Styles with Bows


Figure 1.--Note the bows on the straps of this boys strap shoes. He seems to be wearing a backbuttoning blouse and white short pants. He looks to be about 8 years old. I'm not sure about the country, but it looks to be about the 1920s.

Some strap shoes were quite basic and plain. Others has bow. Usually the bow was over the toe of the shoe. Less commonly the bow was smaller and on the cross bar or strap. These were less common than on the plain strap shoe, but HBC has noted a nimber of them. Generally speaking these bows were small and inconscpicous. I'm not sure about country differences here.
