Russian readers tells yus that both boys and girls wore tights in Russia during the winter. HBC has, however, few details. Hopefully our Russian readerswill provide more information here. A Russian reader has provided us the image here of Russian children wearing tights. The photogeaph is undate, but our reader tells us that the photograph was probably takem in the 1990s. The children do not wear uniforms, but this may be because they are a Kinfergarten class. Note how almost all the children wear the same color grey tights. We had thought that Russian boys by the 1990s still wore tight, but mostly with long pants. A reader wrires, "Either the boy on the left with sandals has tights with very poor elasticity by the ankles or he is wearing bulky ankle socks. I cannot tell which." It looks to HBC as if he is wearing socks under his tights. The other children just look to be wearing tights. A Russian reader tells us, "No, that's not correct. The answer is quite simple. The boy wears tights that are a size too big for him. Due to the lack of goods in former Soviet Union it was common to buy clothes "na vyrost", i.e. "when the child will grow". I've seen boys with socks put over their tights, but never - under."
