Figure 1.--This American boy had rather long ringlets of medium length. Two ringlets on each side have been laid over his shoulder so they are visible. It is not clear how many ringlets he had in total. The photograph was probably taken in the 1890s.

Ringlet Curls: Medium Thickness

Medium length curls were curls of about 1 cm in diameter, a little more than a half inch. HBC's initial assessment is that these medium diameter curls were the most common. This is, however, only an initial assessment. This rquires a more careful assessment before drawing any definitive conclusions. HBC is not sure how many ringlets boys with medium thickness might have. Presumably much had to do with the thickness of a boys hair. As a result there could be considerable difference among different boys.
