Trouser Suspension: H-Bar Kneepants

Figure 1.--This portrait is undated and we also do not know when it was taken. We would guess about 1910. We have only noted H-bar kneepants in Europe. The boys in the portrait here are clearly European, but we are unsure about the country, perhaps Austria or Italy. We have not yet noted any example in America. This may be associated with folk styling, we are not yet sure.

Another style of trouser suspension is H-bar kneepants. We do not, however, notice this style very commonly, but we have noticed a few photograohs of boys wearing H-bar kneepants. We have only noted this style in Europe. The boys in the portrait here are clearly European, but we are unsure about the country, perhaps Austria or Italy (figure 1). We have not yet noted any example in America. This may be associated with folk styling, we are not yet sure. We are also not sure aboyt the chronology of H-bar kneepants, but of course they would be affected by the general chronology for kneepants. The fact that they were worn as a part of olk styling, however, means that they were worn even when kneepants went out of style after World War I in the early 1920s.
