Collars on Boys' Shirts: Stand Up Collar

stand up collar
Figure 1.--Here we see an unidentified American boy doing his First Cimmunnion about 1905. Hec wears a Fauntleroy strabnd up collar blouse. We see a lot of these fabcy vlouses in the late-19th abd very early-20th century. Such stasnd up collrs were relatively rare.

We have noted a few images of boys wearing collars that stand up rather than laying down. We notice some rather elaborate collars. This includes some that are elaborate Fauntleroy collars. We have only noted a few of these collars. They were not very practical. They could be quite lage but for practical reasons could not be as large as the larger ruffled Funtleroy collars. These were similar to smocked collars, but stood up rather thn laying down around the neck and shoulders.
