Figure 1.-- We note a portrait by an unidentified naive artist. The artist is more accomplished that most American naive artists. The child is not idenified, but we believe to be a boy. He wears a maroon tunic with a small lacy collar and flouncy pantalettes. The portrait is not dated, but we believe was painted in the 1830s. .

Imagery in the 1830s is still limited to painted portatits. We have noted one professionally painted portrait. German painting from the 1830s showing that pantelettes were being worn, but do not yet know how precisely to interpret it. We note a portrait by an unidentified naive artist.
