German Sailor Suits Dickies: Types


Figure 1.--This portrait was taken in Hòchst a/M, neaning the city was on the Main River. Note the vest-like dickey. We are not sure about the color, but probably was a light blue. The portait is undated, but we would guess it was taken about 1900.

In most photographs we only see what shows between the "V"-collars. Many dickies only consisted of that small "V" shape which buttoned on to the middy blouse. They attached to the middyblouse, commonly by buttons. Other dickies were in fact "T"-shirt type garments. There were other types of dickies. Some were rather like vests. These dickies of course were separate garments worn and not attachments to the middy blouse itself. Of course it is hard to tell from the photographic record just what type of dickie was involved.
