We do not know much about the Qatari film industry at this time. A reader from Qatar has provided us information on the Gulf Film Festival in 2009. The Festival highligts Arab-language films made in the Gulf states and other Arab countries. We do not know if the Gulf Film Festival is always held in Qatar. Our reader reports, "The 2009 Gulf Film Festival opened here in Qatar. Yesterday was a family day. The film 'Turtle the incredible Journey' was shown. The event got underway Thursday night with an open air screening of the new film called 'Amelia.' As well as showing films there was anactivity day. In various tents children could take part in learning cinematography skills and lerarning about how special effects are done. There was a great deal of interest showed in this aspect of the festival. Attached are pictures I took of the event. The first shows a little boy inspired by the dancing to take to the stage and he did his own work out after everyone had left. Another tent had side show games around the edge of the show area. The third tent I visited had a special effects theme. Here children particupated in a number of activities. The adults watched and were as interested as their children. Other parts of the festival included dance groups which were enjoyed by both children and adults.
