It is based on a book by Xan Hopcroft and Carol Cawthra Hopcroft titled How it Was with Dooms. Th cast was Alexander Michaletos as Xan with Eamonn Walker,

A HBC contributor writes, "This is a very personal film because I know the real people involved in the story. It was very pleasent seeing the film based on the book Xan and his mum wrote. The story in the film differes from the book but non-the-less it is still a worth while film and the love between boy and the leopard shines through. The original story occurred in Kenya. The family have a farm near Nairobi. I got to know the Hopcroft family when I taught their children. The family told me about their pet cheeta called Duma and the things it got up to. It was the best friend of Xan, the eldest Hopcroft boy. It is now a wonderful film about coming of age and returning to your roots."
Nice little guy about 8 or 9 gets teamed up with an orangutan (Dunston).
