"Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" is a typical rockem-sockem adventure film inspired by the cliff-hanging shorts that were shown with films during the 1940s. George Lucas loved to see those shorts as a boy and it shows and this and his other films. The film begins with a young Indy, played by River Phoenix, as part of a Boy Scout troop. Some of the Scouts wear shorts--albeit long ones. Most early American Scouts wore knickers. Tere is, however, little about Scouting in the film. River would have been 17 or 18 years old when he made this film. The setting of the movie would have been in the early 1930s. The Hitler Youth is also depicted in the film. I believe latter on in the film there is a brief sequence with Hitler Youth boys in their short pants uniform. It has been a while since I have seen this film. I thin Indy visits a colleage in Germany who has a boy in the Hitler Youth. The boy spies on him.
