One reviewer describes the Scottish film My Life so Far as a gentle daydream of a movie. It was filmed in Argyll at Ardkinglas House and around Loch Fyne. The film is the memoir of family
in post World War I era. It is set around the life of a little boyduring one languid summer. His family lives on an estate and is headed headed up by a strong disciplinarian matriarch (Rosemary
Harris). The family includes her daughter (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), her inventor husband (Colin Firth), their 10-year old
son (Robbie Norman), and his older sister (Kelly MacDonald). Through the household comes a number of suitors hoping to
impress the young woman, including a flyer (Tcheky Karyo). The elder woman's son (Malcolm MacDowell) shows up at the
estate with of all things, a French maid (Irene Jacob)--throwing the family into turmoil. The young boy is smitten with her and
his father is disturbed by his own feelings. The boys wear short trousers and kilts, usually with bkazers and coat jackets.
The film was directed by Hugh Hudson. Writing credits Simon Donald. Sometimes referred to as World of Moss (1998) in the United States which was a working title. Some of the photography shows the gorgeous Scottish countryside. Much of the script is very original.

The film is a pleasant view of Scotland although there are stereotype characters and reactions. The major actors were Colin Firth (Edward), Rosemary Harris (Gamma), Irène Jacob (Heloise), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Moira), Malcolm McDowell (Uncle Morris), Robert Norman (I) (Fraser), Tchéky Karyo (Gabriel Chenoux), Kelly Macdonald (Elspeth), Roddy McDonald (Rollo), Daniel Baird (Finlay), Jennifer Fergie (Brenda), Kirsten Smith (III)
(Meg), Sean Scanlan (Andrew Burns), John Bett (Uncle Crawford), and Anne Lacey (Aunt Eunice).
The main character is a young Scottish boy Fraser played by Robert Norman. I have seem him variously described as 7-10 years of age. The boy plays a fine lead/narrator.
