Little Lord Fauntleroy: Theatrical Performances--Subsequent Productions

The stage productions of her book were extremely successful financially for Mrs. Burnett. The "Fauntleroy" mania by Spring 1889 had spread throughout the country. In June, there were two New York productions, three companies in Boston and two in Chicago, in addition to at least a dozen more touring companies. Eventually "Little Lord Fauntleroy" played for nearly 4 years in New York and 2 years in London. The play soon moved from the London stage to Paris, Berlin, and other Continental cities. Productions of the story were popular sucesses even into the 1900s. The stage productions of her book were extremely successful financially for Mrs. Burnett. Productions were put together througout the United States. It was not long before a production appeared in London and subsequently all over Europe in many different languages. Mr Burnett became a rich woman.

American Productions

The "Fauntleroy" mania by Spring 1889 had spread throughout the country. In June, there were two New York productions, three companies in Boston and two in Chicago, in addition to at least a dozen more touring companies. Eventually "Little Lord Fauntleroy" played for nearly 4 years in New York. Information on these productions are not readily available to HBC. Major productions, however, were described in the local newspapers, sometgimes in considerable detail. This is especially true if they were formally reviewed. Thus there are valuable accounts in contemporary newspapers. European Productions

The first foreign production of Little Lord Fauntleroy appeared on th London stage. It ran for 2 years. The play soon moved from the London stage to Paris, Berlin, and other Continental cities.

Chronology

After the initial runs in America and Europe, there were many subsequent productions. These productions of Little Lord Fauntleoy were popular sucesses even into the 1900s.
