Here we have the boy's name, only we can't make out the writing. The boy's last name is something like Deinoud. We will include a scan of the back of the card in case you care to try to dechiper the hand writing. Notice how very American (meaning English) first and middle names have been chosen to go along wih a foreign sounding family (last) name. Whle he boy's name is a bit hazzy--we do know the wonderful pooch's name--Fritz. We also know when the portrait was taken -- June 2, 1891. Joe looks to be about 5 yaars old. He is wearing a standard cut-away jacket suit and a ilitary-styled peaked cap. It isa a rather plain suit given that the prtrait was taken in the middle of the Fauntleroy craze. Joe does not have a lot of Fauntleroy finery, but does have a floppy bow. The Fauntleroy style as very opukar, but as we see here not every mther bought into the style. It is inteesting hat while mother did nt choose a Funtleroy suit, she did chose rigklet curls. We did not notice at first, but Joe has long ringlets. The ringlets are a the back and mostly not seen. But mother made sure at least one of the ringlets could be seen n teportrait. One is placed on his shoulder. Note that it is a very long ringlet. Often ringlets only came down to the shouders. Joe's tingles fell far below the shoulders. The studio noted 'superior finish'. We are unsure that was something real or just climed as a marketing ploy. We note a lot of American studios claiming special finishes in the 1890s.
